1 million+ gallons of biodiesel produced in central Louisiana

I’m more cynical than I should be about my hometown of Ball, Louisiana. I wish that leaders back home could be more progressive, more open-minded, and could spur economic growth and cultural enrichment (I know, it’s a lot to ask). But all great journeys start with a single step, and it seems that one company in CENLA is taking a step in (what I think is) the right direction.
I was surprised to read in the Baton Rouge Business Report that:
“A Biodiesel Plant in Pollock [LA] has produced more than 1 million gallons of soybean-based fuel since it opened in April. Diametrics Medical, which wants to change its name to Allegro Biodiesel Corp., says the 1 million gallon mark is an early milestone for the company. The plant has the capacity to produce 12 million gallons of fuel a year.”
Stories of people going green always seem to happen in places far away (California), where the citizenry leans left, and most of whom drive tiny little electric cars. Maybe someday soon, all the pick-up trucks in my hometown with gun racks in the rear window will run a little cleaner with some soy beans under the hood. Now, if we could only address the mullet issue.
